About Sub4 Timing

Jon has been around running his entire life. His dad, Don, started coaching high school cross country in 1969. As a freshman in high school, Jon went out for track & field and has been addicted to running ever since. He competed in both track and cross country the remaining seasons in high school. He continued running in college at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater where he was an All-American in Cross Country and graduated with a degree in Management Computer Systems with honors.

After college, Jon continued to become more involved in running as a USATF official and volunteering at meets. In the early 2000s, Jon needed to contract a timing service provider for the USATF Region 8 Youth Championship meet. This is where he met Steve Wilkin from On The Mark Timing. Fascinated with the system Steve used to time the meet, Jon set out on a mission to become a timer. He timed his first track meet in December of 2002 and formally started his first timing business in March of 2003. In April of 2006, Jon began timing full-time.

In 2007, Jon joined forces with Sports Management Associates (SMA). His technical knowledge and abilities blossomed as the success of SMA exploded. In 2007, SMA won the contract for the La Salle Bank Chicago Marathon and played an integral role in the Men's US Olympic Marathon Trials in NYC. SMA went on to win the contract for the BAA Boston Marathon in 2008 which included the Women's US Olympic Marathon Trials.

In 2018 Jon sold his company, Eclipse Timing, right before the COVID-19 pandemic. After his non-compete expired, Jon's passion for technology and running inspired him to start a new timing company in 2025.
